Impro Workshops and Training

ImproMafia now offers workshops for people interested in learning more about the world of improvised theatre. Our workshop programme currently consists of beginner's sponteneity classes - aimed at introducing participants into the world of improvised theatre - as well as one off master classes with world class impro teachers. In the past we have hosted workshops by Shawn Kinley of Loose Moose and Deborah Frances White of the Sponteneity Shop in London.

Why learn improvised theatre?

The main reason to learn impro is to experience the thrill of entertaining an audience without a script or prerehearsed routine. However, even if you are not interested in performing, then impro is still great fun to learn, and an excellent way to develop selfconfidence, creative thinking and teamwork skills.

Who can do it?

Anyone can get involved in impro - there is no need for drama or comedy experience. The classes are about learning to express yourself spontaneously and honestly on stage - and you don't need to be the world's greatest actor or funniest comedian to do so.

What do our impro classes involve?

The 6-week beginners course will introduce you to the basics of improvised theatre in a fun and friendly environment.

Classes will look at -

Level 1: Spontaneity Classes

Level 2 - Storytelling

This workshop will build on the skills introduced in the Level 1: Spontaneity Class and teach participants several techniques for creating strong improvised narratives. Storytelling is a critical skill for any improviser as a well told story will always entertain an audience. This class will cover the skills necessary to bring fascinating and engaging stories to life on the stage, such as: monologues, creating environments, platforms and tilting, arbitrariness, raising the stakes and musical storytelling.
