Advanced Improvisation: Harold

  • The Exchange 81 Musk Avenue Kelvin Grove, QLD, 4059 Australia (map)

This advanced class will teach you a classic long-form improvisational form called The Harold.

This is an advanced 6-week workshop exploring the format that gave birth to Chicago-style long-form improvisation. Created in the late 60s, The Harold evolved into the signature training and performance structure of Improv Olympic (IO), led by Del Close and Charna Halpern. Harold teams across the world have innovated and pushed the limits of this improviser-driven form.

Harold training is unique and demands a performer be in the moment and hold narrative details at the same time, all while keeping playfully connected to the team. Skills explored include:

  • physical playfulness

  • group trust and gameplay

  • making connections organically

  • creating strong scenes

The focus of this course will be on developing participants skills in performing the Harold. Numbers for the class will be kept limited to give participants meaningful opportunities to practice their scene work and receive detailed feedback from their teacher.
