October Drop-In Class: Exploring the Mask

  • Improvisation QLD 81 Musk Avenue Kelvin Grove, QLD, 4059 Australia (map)

Teachers of the Month: Wade Robinson

Topic of the Month: Exploring the Mask

Masks are quite magical. Put one on and watch yourself transform into a different creature!

Mask play is particularly useful for improvisers, as it encourages the performer to trust their impulses and relieves them of the obligation to consciously "create". Mask work gives you freedom and permission. Freedom from self-judgment, self-criticism or second-guessing. Permission to relinquish control and let your creativity flow. It is, in fact, so fundamental to improv that Keith Johnstone (the creator of Theatresports) dedicated an entire chapter to Masks in his famous book ‘Impro: Improvisation for the Theatre’.

Come have some fun and discover what a mask unlocks for you!
