We'll scratch your itch at the 2022 Fringe Brisbane Festival (or your money back)!

Fringe Brisbane is an exciting community-focused festival and a new project by the creative minds behind Anywhere Festival. Here at ImproMafia, we are thrilled that our improvised show, SCRATCH, is part of the 2022 Fringe Brisbane program!

SCRATCH will be performed on Friday nights during Fringe Brisbane, on October 14, 21, and 28, and on November 4 at Urban Jungle Studios in Newstead.

But what is ‘SCRATCH’ and why should I come to see it?

SCRATCH is the only fully-improvised show in Brisbane with a money-back guarantee! When a show is fully-improvised, the performers are making everything up on the spot in real time. So the performers are experiencing the show for the first time just like you! But don’t worry - if you don’t end up enjoying yourself and you let us know, you have our guarantee that we will give you your money back!

SCRATCH is made up of two entertaining halves. It’s like getting two shows for the price of one! In the first half of the show, we'll invite you to challenge us with your most boring scene suggestions, and we'll work our magic to spin them into comedy gold. In the second half of the show, you will be treated to a long-form improvised performance (“Long-form” just means that rather than numerous short scenes, this will be one longer, cohesive show). During Fringe Brisbane, this long-form show will either be ‘State Mandated Story Time’ or ‘Heartfelt High’, depending on the night (more info about these shows below).

Why is the show called “SCRATCH” anyway?

Great question! There are a number of reasons for that. Firstly, as it’s all fully improvised, the show is made up from SCRATCH! Plus, if you don’t enjoy the show, you are able to get your SCRATCH back! We also hope to SCRATCH an itch for our audience members. A comedy itch. An entertainment itch. An all-around good time itch. You get the picture!

What is ‘State Mandated Story Time’?

The Vigovostock Children's Education and Entertainment Committee invite* all citizens to attend this  fun-filled re-education program. You’ll experience new traditional stories of childhood (such as "Proletariat Beaver Who Should Have Contributed to Glory of Nation") and the joyous sound of traditional worker songs (such as "If You Don't Work, Everybody Dies").

*Attendance mandatory.

State Mandated Story Time will be performed on the 14th and 28th of October.

What is ‘Heartfelt High’?

Heartfelt High is a merciless improvised parody of Aussie ‘90s teen dramas. Join a cast of spunkrats, drongos and toerags behind the bike shed as they deal with young love, peer pressure, and the horrors of adolescence, all invented on the spot from your suggestions.

Heartfelt High will be performed on the 21st of October and the 4th of November.
