Advanced Improvisation: Narrative Long-form

  • The Exchange 81 Musk Avenue Kelvin Grove Australia (map)

Come and learn how to improvise a play!

Improv Queensland has a wonderful tradition of using improvisation to create one or two act plays. This style of long-form improvisation allows performers to explore one story or one set of characters across the course of a show. In doing this, it allows performers a unique opportunity to evoke a world on stage for the audience and to bring their characters to life. It is one of the most rewarding ways of creating impro for both audience and performers alike.

The focus of this 6-week workshop series is on techniques for developing short improvised plays or extended scenes. The workshop will provide you with the opportunity to explore these different approaches, and learn how to incorporate them into your work. The class will be highly interactive with an emphasis on putting ideas into practice plus some discussion and theory. It will also be fun!

The workshop will cover:

Taking time with your work and letting things develop

Using characters as an inspiration as a driver for a show

How to create a story without plotting

How to structure (or not structure) your show.

The class will also work with you to develop your own show ideas with the opportunity to see them in action at an end-of-workshop showcase.

It is  pre-requisite that you have completed our intermediate classes (or equivalent). Contact us if you have any questions.
